Guiding Principles

Universities and colleges across Canada have collective agreements with their employees and negotiations to renew collective agreements, or collective bargaining, are a part of the life cycle of collective agreements. VIU is committed to integrity in all our labour relations. Fair and competitive terms and conditions of employment for employees are foundational to our ability to deliver on our mission of excellence in teaching and learning, service and research and fostering student success.

VIU’s collective bargaining mandate is governed by the Province of British Columbia’s Sustainable Services Negotiating Mandate which applies to all public sector employers with unionized employees whose collective agreements expire on or after December 31, 2018.

Information on the status of negotiations throughout the province and announcements is available at the Government of BC Public Sector News site and the Government of BC Public Sector Bargaining site.
