LinkedIn Learning FAQs

Answers to frequently asked questions about the LinkedIn Learning platform.

You do not need a LinkedIn profile to use LinkedIn Learning. You can access LinkedIn Learning through the email sent to your VIU email address. You may choose to link to your LinkedIn profile if you have one, but it is not necessary.

When a LinkedIn Learning license is provided by your organization, you'll receive an email notification inviting you to activate your Learning account. To access Learning, open the email and click the Activate LinkedIn Learning now button. You’ll be taken to LinkedIn Learning, where you can view thousands of courses on business, tech, and creative topics. More instructions

Other users and your LinkedIn connections will not be able to see what you have viewed, unless you choose to share it on your LinkedIn profile. Linkedin Learning account administrators can access and retain the following information:

  1. Learning activity, such as courses viewed or completed
  2. Profile information, such as your name and job title

Some employees may be granted sub-admin privileges in order to create groups. If you are a member of a group, that sub-admin will have access to information about users in their groups.

LinkedIn will not give your organization access to private activity from your personal LinkedIn account, such as:

  1. Your connections
  2. Your private messages
  3. Any job search activity, such as job posts you've viewed
  4. Any learning courses you've viewed in your personal account

LinkedIn Learning account administrators can review analytic data about popular courses, skills, or employee needs.

All VIU employees have the opportunity to access LinkedIn Learning.

You can access the courses or programs you have completed from your Learning History page. To access your Learning History page:

  1. Click your profile picture in the upper right corner of your LinkedIn Learning homepage
  2. Click Learning History from the dropdown

You are in control of what learning activity is shared with your LinkedIn network. For example, if you choose, you have the option to:

  1. Add completed courses to your profile
  2. Share courses with your LinkedIn network

If you have a personal account with LinkedIn Learning, it does not impact your VIU account. You may choose to keep your private account and transfer activity between the accounts or cancel your private account. If you have further questions about this, please see the LinkedIn Learning help center within.

LinkedIn Learning courses can be taken during work hours if your manager/supervisor has assigned the course. Professional development activity is covered in your collective agreement or terms and conditions of employment. Please discuss with your manager or HR Advisor if you have questions.

System Administrators for the LinkedIn Learning platform are able to view reports of courses taken, track course progress and view the use of platform licenses. This data is used to ensure the limited licenses available are being optimized.
