On behalf of CUPE Local 1858 and Vancouver Island University
We are pleased to announce that the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 1858 (CUPE Local 1858) and Vancouver Island University (VIU) have reached a tentative collective agreement for the period of July 1, 2022 - June 30, 2025. The tentative agreement covers approximately 395 CUPE employees at VIU.
The leadership of both CUPE Local 1858 and VIU are grateful for the ongoing commitment and capable work of the bargaining teams. The respectful, collaborative and interest-based approach from both sides enabled us to reach a tentative agreement that will better support CUPE employees and the University now and in the future.
This tentative agreement aligns with the provincial government’s 2022 Shared Recovery Mandate and VIU’s People Plan commitments to wellness and equity. CUPE and VIU will now initiate their respective ratification processes and we will share more details about the agreement when ratification is complete.
