VIUFA Ratification Process Complete

Sent on July 22, 2020 on behalf of VIUFA and VIU

We are pleased to share that the Vancouver Island University Faculty Association (VIUFA) and VIU have ratified a new collective agreement under the provincial government’s Sustainable Services Negotiating Mandate. The ratified agreement is in effect from April 1, 2019 - April 1, 2022 and covers approximately 635 VIUFA faculty members at the University.

Some of the key aspects of the agreement are:

  • general wage increases of 2%, 2% and 2%
  • increased wage rate for non-regular instructional work
  • updates to various leave provisions
  • improvements for non-instructional faculty
  • increases to benefits

The parties engaged in thoughtful and meaningful dialogue with respect to their shared interest in supporting and enhancing student and faculty experience at VIU.

We would once again like to thank everyone who was involved in the bargaining process and their commitment to the process even when the process was impacted by COVID-19. The result is an agreement that contains many improvements that will benefit employees, students and the broader university community. If you have any questions about the agreement or the bargaining process, please contact Laura Suski at bargainer@viufa.ca or Patricia Elliott at patricia.elliott@viu.ca.
