Welcome to Vancouver Island University!

I am so pleased that you have chosen to join our community of dedicated, energetic employees. We all work together to elevate the bar and provide an excellent environment for our students and colleagues.

The educational experience of our students informs everything we do here. We keep it at the front of our minds in all our daily activities and do our best to create an exceptional learning environment where everyone – students, employees and the broader Vancouver Island community – belong and thrive. At VIU, everyone has a voice and using that voice we make meaningful contributions and ensure the success of the institution.

Vancouver Island University is a regional institution serving Vancouver Island and the coastal mainland. Our mandate is to improve the lives of those we serve. We accomplish this not only by transforming lives through education, but by contributing more than $600 million annually to the regional economy.

We want to support you in your own career aspirations and will do whatever we can to ensure you can reach your goals. We also know that you will provide the same support to those around you. I hope that you will live the values of VIU during your time at work.

The coming days, weeks and months will be full of new information and learning. I know this can be overwhelming and I strongly encourage you to reach out to anyone in Human Resources, your direct supervisor or a trusted colleague whenever you need it. Asking questions is how we learn, and learning is our business.

On behalf of everyone at VIU, welcome to our community. We are so happy to have you.

Sincerely,

Dr. Deborah Saucier
