We are pleased to share that the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 1858 membership has ratified a new collective agreement under the provincial government’s Sustainable Services Negotiating Mandate. The University’s Board of Governors and the Post-Secondary Employers Association Board of Directors have also approved the agreement. The ratified agreement runs from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2022 and covers over 400 CUPE employees at the University.
Some of the highlights of the agreement are:
- general wage increases of 2%, 2% and 2%
- Additions and adjustments to the CUPE Joint Job Evaluation plan and wage scales
- Increases in benefits
- Changes to casual employment and employee probation
- Adjustments to shift premiums
- Updates to incorporate Employment Standards Act changes
Both parties would once again like to thank everyone who was involved in the bargaining process. All parties were committed to working respectfully, diligently and collaboratively, even when the process was impacted by COVID-19.
The result is an agreement that contains many improvements that will benefit both CUPE and the University as well as our students and broader university community. If you have any questions about the agreement or the bargaining process, please contact CUPE President Tiffany McLaughlin or Director of Employee Relations, Patricia Elliott.
