Duties: |
Teach all aspects of theory and practical skills required for PC1 program completion and future employment in the industry. Participate as a member of the VIU Culinary instructional team to ensure all PC1 competencies of the Culinary Arts Certificate Program curriculum are achieved. Review and revise curriculum as required. A firm knowledge of ITA Professional Cook curriculum as required. Develop new materials and recipes when appropriate. Participate in all learning aspects of food production in a "Farm to Table" setting, including working with farmers and farm products. Candidate must be cognizant of the Providence values, mission and community. Assist in the ongoing evaluation of food costing, quality control and instructional delivery while supporting the promotion and management of the Farm Table Restaurant. |
Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning, and student success. Successful candidates will participate in activities outside the classroom including student support and department committees. |

Required Qualifications: |
Red Seal Trade Qualification. Extensive experience in first-class establishments with a minimum of 10 years working in a range of cooking experiences. Provincial Instructor Diploma or equivalent (if not complete will be given a maximum of two years to complete). Ability and willingness to work independently and as part of a team comprised of instructors, administrators, and support staff. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated computer literacy required. A high level of energy and enthusiasm is essential. Demonstrated experience with new and innovative approaches in cooking. Sensitivity to the needs of a wide variety of adult students returning to education. Must be available for schedule above. Candidates must be able to demonstrate, instruct and evaluate a range of culinary techniques, and must be familiar with ITA PC1 and PC2 outlines and outcomes. |
Preferred Qualifications: |
Teaching in a post-secondary setting. Membership in a Chef's Association. Recent industry experience. |
