Although you can see the balance of your sick leave bank in the absences window, you cannot enter your sick leave into HRIS. Please report sick leave to your Time Entry Designate (TED).
Recording sick leave
Sick leave is reported to your supervisor or manager, and a Time Entry Designate (TED) will enter the sick leave absence in HRIS via the Employee Portal. If you are reporting sick leave via email, include the Time Entry Designate (TED) for your area on the email. If you don’t know who the appointed TED is, the manager will pass on the information to the department’s TED.
TED is an acronym for Time Entry Designate, which is a role that allows a sick leave - trained employee to enter absences on behalf of another employee.
Your supervisor, manager or dean will know who enters sick leave absences for the department/area. TEDs often have positions such as Administrative Assistant, Faculty Secretary, Coordinator or Program Assistant.
If there is not an available TED in your department/area, please report your sick leave absence to your supervisor/manager and send an email to benefits@viu.ca. The VIU employee benefits team will record your sick leave in HRIS.
For TEDs (Time Entry Designates)
Sick leave absence entry instructions can be found in the Appointment Creator drive. Contact Dana.Swarts@viu.ca if you need TED training.
