How Do I Apply for CUPE Learning and Development funding?

Whenever possible, apply for funding prior to paying for a course or event. First, you will find out if are eligible for funding. Secondly, we may be able to assist with payment or get discounts for some of the costs.
Go to the Forms tab where you will find the Learning and Development Online Application form. Applications are received on an ongoing basis. Please allow up to 2 weeks for processing. The CUPE Learning and Development Committee may request additional information or documentation to support applications.
Do you want to take a VIU credit or non-credit course? Apply to CUPE Learning and Development. (Tuition for Credit courses may be covered by the VIU Tuition Waiver program.) If your request is approved then we provide a Sponsor letter to pay Registration and/or Bookstore costs. Connect with us before paying for a VIU course so we can provide information on how to get reimbursement.
Please include the reason you are seeking the training and relate the reason to professional development in your current position at work and/or advancement at VIU.
Criteria for approval will include: relevance to work; value of the training for career advancement and professional development goals at VIU.
Once an application has been approved, the CUPE Learning and Development Assistant will notify you by email. The email will contain instructions on payment and/or reimbursement of costs.
If a CUPE member withdraws from or does not attend a sponsored course, the CUPE Learning and Development office will need to be notified and all funds received must be reimbursed.
If you will not be using some or all of the approved funds please let us know. The funds not used can be made available to other CUPE member Applications.
If a class or event occurs in the next fiscal year (April 1 - March 31) please consult with us about what can be paid in the current fiscal year and what will be paid in the next fiscal year.
